Our story

  • 1795

    Birth of the Cauwe brewery

    Thanks to François Cauwe, a hard worker brewer, the Cauwe brewery was first built in 1795 in Roulers in Flemish Belgium.

  • 2013

    Biercauwe in the 1900s : a soaring success

    By the end of the 19th century, Cauwe became more and more famous in its neighboring regions. The brewery owned by the time more than a hundred sell points in Flemish country.

  • 1956

    Stop of the production

    However, due to a critical economic situation after WWII, Cauwe was shut down. The premises were taken over by Wielemans, a malting plant. The brand Cauwe thus disappeared.

  • 2010

    Biercauwe reborn

    Fifty-five years later, Maxime, a descendant of the Cauwe’s family discovered a trunk in an old family home containing historical records and recipes of the Cauwe brewery. In his mind, the idea started to grow; he could rebuild what was once the great Cauwe Brewery. Along with his friend Fabien, the two accepted the challenge.

  • 2011

    Launching of Triple Cauwe

    After 1 ½ years of hard work, the brewery was officially reborn, using the recipes found in the familial archive. The 2011 triple cauwe was their first success.

  • 2012

    Launching of the draft triple cauwe

    As the business grew, a new step was made when the triple cauwe is launched as a draft beer. The triple is now available in bars.

  • 2013

    Launching of Pils Cauwe

    After the success of triple cauwe, Max and Fab thought about other kinds of beers, namely a sweet, soft and pleasant one. Therefore, thanks once again to the old familial recipes, the duo launched the pils Cauwe a refreshing and attenuated blond beer.

  • 2013

    Launching of the Winterfale

    The Winterfale is a "Bière de garde" exclusively brewed with special kinds of malt and British hops. It also uses a natural technique of bottle conditioning. She namely offers a coppery color almost mahogany. The smell combines nuts and dry fruits aromas. In mouth, the sweetness of honey counteracts the strength of hops. Once again, a nice balance that gives birth to a soft brown ale fitted for winter.
